Agate (achates) was named from the river Achates, now the Drillo, in Sicily, where the stone was first identified. It is cryptocrystalline quartz (micro crystals) usually with a banded pattern (although not always). |
Additional Information |
Coyamito forms in nodules and is collected in Chihuahua Mexico. It is a nice banded fortification agate sometimes with hollow centers and small crystal druze. It takes a great polish and comes in a wide variety of colors. It is found about 40 miles form the more famous Laguna agate beds.
