Agate (achates) was named from the river Achates, now the Drillo, in Sicily, where the stone was first identified. It is cryptocrystalline quartz (micro crystals) usually with a banded pattern (although not always). |
Additional Information |
The slab that made these cabs was from an unknown origin. They are similar to graveyard point agate. They are just another example of a plume agate with a somewhat different type of plume. The agate background has many small fortifications and a few small crystal pockets.
Cabochons cut by the author and are framed with black jade. The first and third cab are backed with black jade too.
