The name is derived from the German "quarz" of uncertain origin. It was called "krystallos" by the Greeks, but this later became the generic term for crystal. |

| This is a slight variation of he pom pom cut as shown in one of the Vargas books. The stone cut by the author. The large 6 sided facets were decreased in size slightly and the smaller 5 sided facets were enlarged. Finally one additional row of facets (breaks) were added around the crown. |
