General Info: |
Agate (achates) was named from the river Achates, now the Drillo, in Sicily, where the stone was first identified. It is cryptocrystalline quartz (micro crystals) usually with a banded pattern (although not always). |
Additional Information |
Montana agate tends to have a very clear base with wispy brown/orange clouds or banding. It may also have dark mossy areas, including plumes or dendrites It has a relatively distinctive color an patterning that is easy to spot once you have seen it. Cut by author.
